“ through the lens “
Image and story
For thousands of years images have been used in storytelling; from the Lascaux cave paintings to the Bayeux tapestry and on through the history of art to the present day with comics, cartoons, advertising, photography and cinema.
Students at all levels find the creating of imagery, visualisation, a complex process; how do you translate a written screenplay into the medium of film, how do you create compelling images that enhance a narrative and bring to life the emotional depth and drama of the script?
This short course is designed to help students enter the world of visual imagery, learning to look and appreciate the language of composition, shapes, colours and textures. Students will be encouraged to understand that the camera and lens do not see the world in the same way as the human eye and brain.
